💡Some ‘A-ha’ moments from the podcast
Know what benefit you are delivering to your customers - is it saving them money? is it saving them time and energy?
Nupur’s mission —> “There is an unrealistic expectation of founders of any kind to know everything, in a way that we don’t expect in other industries. I want to create a business where I say I’m really good at what I do and I can take it off your hands, and you can then focus on what you do”
Starting a business requires not just an idea, but a way to test it out in a low-risk way that builds up your confidence
“I did it with a job on the side - it reduced the pressure of figuring things out really quickly… I also asked a lot of people - this is what I think is happening, do you generally feel this way, or am I wrong?…just kind of surveying and talking to different people, and asking some friends to do demos. Can I have an hour with your team to talk to them about growing as an organisation?”
Have targeted feedback sessions, and always follow up on them to understand WHY they said what they said
“I fell into the trap thinking that every piece of feedback is mission critical. I actually switched gears to think who am I talking to, are they my ideal customer, and what parts of their business would I like to work with? Then I would ask for a follow up chat…I’ve got your feedback, I have questions”
The Solopreneur journey can be lonely, so find your community of people who can workshop things with you
“I find a lot of joy in bouncing ideas with people in adjacent industries - maybe they’re not founders or entrepreneurs. As a solopreneur, it can feel that I’ve been given this plate of problems and I need to solve them myself. I enjoy the process of setting up a meeting with a friend to bounce some ideas and get advice”
Building and nurturing a client relationship, especially as a coach / consultant, comes from not just advising people but from building a genuine, collaborative relationship
“This new approach of we’re all figuring things out and we’ll deal with it together…clients cry sometimes and they feel like - oh okay, I don’t feel judged now. And a moment I felt really special is when someone said - do you mind if I connect you to a friend?”
💬 Nupur’s advice to women who want to build businesses on their own terms
“I don’t think we have to wait…there is a narrative when we look at social media, there are a lot of stories saying I was sick of my job and then I started a business. My story is actually quite different, I loved my job. But then I had an idea and even though it’s wonderful, I want to go work on it. We don’t have to wait for a low to go work on a high”
